Trimedial newsroom system

As part of BR’s trimedial strategy, the collaboration between television, radio and online was to be fundamentally improved. In addition, it was necessary to sustainably reduce the operational costs and efforts for three separate editorial systems. The defined goal was the creation of a central system.

Against this background, sommer + spohr was commissioned to take over the overall project management for this project. Special challenges were, on the one hand, the demanding and extensive requirements management and, on the other hand, the creation of a high-performance and high-availability platform for the central system. For both aspects sommer + spohr helped to develop and implement very specific procedures.

The new solution was able to go live on schedule and has been significantly more stable and performant than all previous individual systems. Due to the early and permanent involvement of the user representatives of television, radio and online, the new solution had all the prerequisites to be successively trained and rolled out in these areas.

For this purpose, sommer + spohr moderated a large (40 participants), one-day stakeholder workshop in which the requirements were developed in groups and in plenary sessions. sommer + spohr provided an innovative web collaboration tool in which the requirements were recorded, consolidated and processed into user stories. The tool enables the traceability of all changes and an efficient collaboration through distributed and parallel work.

After a very short project duration of 2 months, SWR has a comprehensive backlog, knows the enthusiasm factors and is now in a position to plan further project planning with precision.
